With RELIEFS, a series of ceramic bas-reliefs, Franck Scala invites us into a journey through memory and landscape. He reimagines the contours of emblematic natural sites, transforming their essence into sculptural impressions. Drawn to the slow but relentless impact of time—the erosion of stone, the shaping force of the elements—he pays homage to these phenomena by transcribing them into matter and form.
 

The works emerge from the artist’s own recollections of travel. At times, inspiration comes from the American West Coast’s National Parks, where he was struck by the sheer power of canyons carved over millennia. At others, from Hawaii’s volcanic activity, where rivers of lava once engulfed vast stretches of land and left a profound impression on him.
